Winding Operation and Future Prospect of Micro-coils

2 Mins read

Coil winding technology effectively produces electrical conductors or electromagnetic coils. Electromagnetic coils play a vital role in the field of medical science. These coils make medical devices or medical sensors and we can refer to them as medical coils. Medical coils mainly contain copper, aluminium, or gold wires that may be coreless or wounded around itself.

Coil winding process –

Advanced coil winding expertise is an essential aspect of preparing inductive components with the use of super-fine wires in order to maintain the flow of connectivity within micro-devices. This technology follows a series of methods to correctly handle metal wires of fine diameter, which is sometimes 5 to 10 times smaller than a human hair. The guidelines of making micro-coils rely on the area of application. On that note, choosing the right material for manufacturing micro-coils is very important. Manufacturers use different materials to prepare micro-coils. Some of them are copper, aluminium, stainless steel, titanium, etc.

Along with it, the conventional, heat-based soldering technique for connecting ultra-fine wires is also ineffective due to its numerous side-effects such as oxidation, excessive strain, spoils due to heat energy, etc. All these factors, by together, reduces the connectivity and durability of wires.

For that reason, the best effective technique to connect ultra-fine wires is thermo-pressure bonding technology. This technology allows connecting super-fine wires of any diameter without any flaw. Thermo-pressure bonding technology is also equally effective in case of terminal-based connection, though the application is slightly different. For terminal-based connection, cail-makers connect the wire’s end with a gold-plated terminal.

Specifications of wire coil

  • Wire coils can be single or multi filar.
  • It can be of multiple diameters.
  • It can be tapered.
  • It may have a variable pitch.
  • It can be right or left hand.
  • It can be offset.
  • It may be bi-plex or tri-plex.

What are micro-coils?

Micro-coils produce miniature devices or sensors. The micro or miniature coil winding process depends on special machinery devices which are very rare in the market. For that reason, in most cases, the manufacturer designs and builds the machines needed for preparing micro coils. Besides, highly skilled engineers overview the whole process of micro-coil manufacturing with the help of advanced technological support. All these things are both costly and very difficult to attain. Thus, a handful of companies prepare micro coils around the world.

Final thoughts–

With time, the use of micro coils is increasing, especially in the medical fields. Thus, in future, we can expect more market demand of micro coils which will seriously encourage other companies in manufacturing micro coils to mitigate the market demand.
