What to Expect From the New Mobile Technology in 2020?

3 Mins read

Back in time, the usage of cell phones was primarily to make a call or at the most text. Even changing ringtones sounded like a big deal. However, over time, people have changed, needs have changed, and science has transitioned accordingly.

From cell phones to smartphones to foldable phones, the world around us is going digital at every second. The Apple mobile phone (XS) I bought in October 2018 turned old just a month later with the release of the iPhone XR in September 2018. In merely a month, the iPhone XR entered the market with many advanced specifications.

Well, this is how fast technology progresses these days, and, with 2020 waiting around the corner, people are anticipating more from the latest mobile technology.

Get more Smarter with 5G network

Does streaming 4K movies on your smartphone sound like a time-consuming task? Well, even with the latest network, 4G, it would take around an hour or so depending on the smartphone specifications. But, don’t worry because the mobile technology in the year 2020 promises a better connection with the introduction of 5G smartphones.

The fifth-generation will boost internet speed significantly. Primarily, it aims to elevate the data rate, energy efficiency, system connectivity, and capacity. With 5G networking, you can download the movies in 4K displays in merely a few minutes. A few high-end brands like Apple have announced the release of 5G smartphones at the beginning of 2020. Masses are waiting to upgrade their phones, including us, till the 5G Apple mobile phone steps in the market.

Fast Charging

Since mobile phones have become an all-day, everyday necessity for us, we’re becoming more and more concerned about battery life. 2019 has already taught us a few handy tips of saving and increasing battery life with apps, setting phone’s adjustments, portable power bank, or purchasing a phone with greater mAh number.

But 2020 is taking the charging game to a whole new level. Leading smartphone manufacturers are working on extending battery life substantially using the super-capacitor devised by UCF’s (University of Central Florida) scientists, back in 2016. The two-dimensional super-capacitor is much more durable than the lithium-ion batteries.

They can withstand 30,000 charges without degrading, which is 20 times what the lithium-ion batteries can take. With their high energy density, the two-dimensional super-capacitors can bring about faster charging. If it gets incorporated in phones, then it will surely be our favorite 2020 mobile technology. Because who doesn’t want a fully charged phone in seconds?!

In addition to super-fast charging, we expect charge-less charging to become common too. Brands like Vivo have already introduced port-less models that support wireless, super-fast charging. Recently, Vivo even introduced its SuperFlash Charge 120W technology through which the phone charged from zero to a complete 100 in just 13 minutes.

Hybrid Displays

Are you a frequent reader on a smartphone? Well, then you must be familiar with that strange strain in your eyes after an hour or so reading. Whether it be an article, blog, or an e-book, the mere task of reading on a smartphone is much energy-draining. Unlike the E-ink display in Kindle, our smartphones do not comprise of reader-friendly screens. Certainly, we all love that brilliant and vivid LCD and OLED displays, but there are not well-designed for dedicated readers.

Considering this rising demand, reputable smartphone brands are evaluating the prospects of a hybrid display. Apple realized the need back in 2011 when it worked towards a patent for a hybrid display (E-ink/OLED). However, ever since, no Apple mobile phone with a hybrid display has developed.

The Hybrid display revolves around combing OLED technology into the E-ink technology, which can result in a much reader-friendly smartphone display.

Increased water resistance

Imagine skateboarding with your friends or even better, skiing in a nearby lake. The water splashes around, one of the friends dives in, and the laughter erupts at lamest of jokes. It is a day of wholeness and delight. You try to encapsulate one of these memorable scenarios on your smartphone. Just when you are about to touch the camera icon, the phone slips from your hand, and a cry escapes your mouth as your so-called water-resistant phone surrenders to the icy liquid. A perfect day ruined by the weak water-resistance of your phone.

Well, similar situations still occur in these modish times of water-resistant phones. It is because up till now, the companies have managed to produce the most water-resistant phone at the rating of IP68. The iPhone 11, with the rating of IP68, can survive for 30-minutes in 4-meter deep water. Hence, masses are anticipating increased water resistance in 2020.

With the year 2020 a few months ahead, let’s wait for the mobile technology to unravel!
